The NBOME Installs Lori A. Kemper, DO, MS, as Chair; New Officers Elected

PHILADELPHIA, PA—The National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME), an independent, nonprofit organization that provides competency assessments for osteopathic medical licensure and related health care professions, is proud to announce the following updates to our Board leadership, who will serve a two-year term:

Chair – Lori A. Kemper, DO, MS, Glendale, Ariz.

Kemper has previously served as the vice-chair and secretary-treasurer of the board of directors. She also serves on the NBOME Finance and Awards committees. An osteopathic family physician, she is dean of Midwestern University, Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine and is a past chair of the AACOM Board of deans. She is chair of the Data Committee for the American Osteopathic Association’s Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation.

Her tenure with the NBOME includes roles as chair of the Finance and Liaison committees, and as a member of the Test Accommodations and COMAT Advisory committees. She received her osteopathic medical degree from A.T Still University – Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Vice-Chair – David Kuo, DO, Blue Bell, Pa.

Kuo is associate dean for graduate medical education and an associate professor of family medicine at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). Kuo previously served as assistant program director and program director for the family medicine residency program.

He has served in numerous roles in the NBOME, including as a physician examiner, as National Faculty Chair of COMLEX-USA Level 2-PE (until the exam’s suspension in 2020), and as co vice-chair for the NBOME Special Commission on Osteopathic Medical Licensure Assessment. He is the current chair of the COMLEX-USA Composite Examination Committee. He also serves on the Blueprint Subcommittee and as chair of the Student Experience Panel. Kuo received his osteopathic medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Secretary-Treasurer – John L. Goudreau, DO, PhD, East Lansing, Mich.

Goudreau was re-elected this year as secretary-treasurer, and was first elected as a member of the NBOME Board in December 2014. He is a professor of neurology and pharmacology-toxicology at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM), where his research focuses on Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders.

He has served the NBOME in numerous roles, including as COMLEX-USA Level 2-CE examination chair, and as chair of the Clinical Decision Making Subcommittee and of the Finance Committee. He is a member of the COMLEX-USA Level 3 Advisory Committee and was a member of the Cognitive Testing Advisory Committee. He received his osteopathic medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Immediate Past Chair – Richard J. LaBaere II, DO, MPH, Ortonville, Mich.

An osteopathic family physician, LaBaere previously served as Board chair. He is the associate dean for graduate medical education at A.T. Still University–Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Mo., where he also provides leadership to the National Center for Osteopathic Principles and Practice Education.

LaBaere has served the NBOME in numerous roles during his tenure, including as chair of the Audit, Compensation, and COMLEX-USA Composite Examination committees, and of the Special Commission on Osteopathic Medical Licensure Assessment. He also led the Portfolio & Expanded Assessments and Residency Readiness Index (RRI) – Pediatrics task forces. He received his osteopathic medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
