DO Graduates See Increase in MSMP Match

SPAL

On December 4, the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) released the results of the 2025 Medicine and Pediatric Specialties Match (MSMP), which includes Medical, Pediatric, Multidisciplinary and Addiction specialties.

Of the 8313 matched applicants, 1218 DO graduates matched to fellowship positions beginning in 2025. DO graduates made up nearly 15 percent of filled positions, an increase of 142 DO graduates who matched over last year’s MSMP Match. The match rate for DO graduates in this year’s match remains at 79 percent, showing that the number of matches is keeping pace with the increased number of DOs choosing to pursue subspecialty training.

DOs were especially well represented in the match statistics for the following subspecialties in Internal Medicine, outpacing their representation in the subspecialty match:

  • Allergy and Immunology
  • Critical Care Medicine
  • Gastroenterology
  • Geriatric Medicine
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Nephrology
  • Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine

Within pediatrics, DO graduates were also well represented in the following specialties:

  • Adolescent Medicine
  • Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine
  • Pediatric Critical Care Medicine
  • Pediatric Emergency Medicine
  • Pediatric Gastroenterology
  • Pediatric Hematology / Oncology
  • Pediatric Hospital Medicine
