At the ACGME Annual Educational Conference in March, NBOME staff and leadership had the opportunity to connect with more than 4,400 attendees from across graduate medical education (GME) and undergraduate medical education (UME) on topics such as the importance of COMLEX-USA for DOs, resources for residency program directors, our advocacy work, and more.

Those representing the NBOME were President and CEO John R. Gimpel, DO, MEd; Vice President for Strategy & Quality Initiatives Melissa Turner, MS; and Associate Director for UME-GME Affairs Danielle Parker-Mangum. Board leaders attending the conference included Richard J. LaBaere II, DO, MPH, and David Kuo, DO.

The NBOME has attended the conference for over a decade. This year, the NBOME booth was the site of much activity, with representatives from many residency and fellowship programs showing great support for DO applicants with COMLEX-USA scores.

This year’s theme, Meaning in Medicine, underscored the need for sustaining purpose and joy in the work of health care professionals, with a focus on serving the public and delivering high-quality, equitable patient care.

Educational sessions at the conference included topics such as ACGME accreditation and initiatives; diversity, equity, and inclusion; faculty and professional development; well-being; crisis management; artificial intelligence.

The opening plenary was given by ACGME president and CEO, Thomas J. Nasca, MD, and touched on the growth of GME and evolutionary changes at the ACGME, among other topics. Gimpel thanked Nasca, who will retire at the end of this year after more than 17 years, for his work with the NBOME during his tenure.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the 2025 ACGME conference February 20-22 in Nashville, TN!
