The National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME), an independent, nonprofit organization that provides competency assessments for osteopathic medical licensure and related health care professions, is proud to announce the following appointments to its National Faculty Chair positions effective January 2025.
New National Faculty Chairs
Travis Engel, DO, MSc
COMAT Chair – Pediatrics
Engel is a pediatric clinical faculty member at Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Chair of Pediatric Medicine for Centra Medical Group in Lynchburg, VA. He has served on the NBOME National Faculty since 2019, most recently on the Residency Readiness Index (RRI) – Pediatrics Focus Group.
Binh Phung, DO, MPH, MHA
Department Chair – Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine
Phung is an associate professor of pediatrics at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences and a pediatric hospitalist at St. Francis Children’s Hospital in Tulsa, OK, He joined the NBOME National Faculty in 2013. Most recently, he served on the COMLEX-USA Level 3 Advisory Committee from 2021-2024.
Stephen Scheinthal, DO
Department Chair – Psychiatry
Scheinthal is a professor of psychiatry and chair of the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Chief of Psychiatry for Jefferson Health New Jersey. He joined the NBOME National Faculty in 2011, most recently participating in a Level 2-CE item review project.
James Lyons, MD
Division Chair – Pathology
Lyons is an associate dean of medical education and professor of Pathology and Family Medicine at Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM). He joined the NBOME National Faculty in 2016, most recently participating in a Level 3 Clinical Decision-Making Case Writing Workshop.
